Gryffindor Slouchy Beanie by Handmade Boy
Hello, CraftingCon fans! It’s Kelly from Handmade Boy back with a quick and easy Harry Potter inspired tutorial. Fall is on it’s way and so is beanie season! And I thought that Gryffindor’s colors would make the perfect slouchie beanie for my guy.
Want to make your own slouchie beanie to show your support for your favorite house? It’s easy! I found this really great tutorial over at Darice to base my hat off of. You can find it here. I did make a a minor change. I slipped in a couple of rows of single crochet to add a gray accent. (I have to sneak in some gray whenever I can!) Simple enough, right! If you are making this for an adult, you will want to add two more rows of double crochet. By changing two rows to single crochet, my hat turned out a bit shorter, perfect for my six year old model.
For the striping I used the following pattern:
Rows 1-5: Burgundy
Row 6: Gold
Row 7: Gray (remember, this one I changed to single crochet)
Row 8-9: Burgundy
Row 10: Gold
Row 11: Gray (single crochet)
Row 12-19: Burgundy
It’s that easy! Now, I couldn’t stop there! I made Thomas a Gryffindor raglan to complete his look using Love Notion’s Samson. (affil link)
The heat transfer vinyl design is based off of some art I found on Pinterest.
(I will never again design something that has such small spaces to weed!!)
Perfect, subtle Harry Potter look for my first grader this fall.
