Little Witch Academia with Sew Starly

3 Hi Everyone! I am Starly. I blog over at Sewstarly.com. I am so excited to be competing in Craftingcon’s Anime Month! I am a long time lover of anime. My favorite is Neon Genesis Evangelion. I also loved Full Metal Alchemist and used to also watch all the old episodes of DragonballZ. I have to admit I haven’t watched a ton of Anime in the past few years so this was a good opportunity for me to find something my 5 year old might enjoy too. It didn’t take me long to find Little Witch Academia On Netflix. 9 Little Witch Academia is available in English on Netflix. It’s about a girl Akko who inspired by the witch Shiny Chariot decides to go to witch school. Poor Akko isn’t a very good at being a witch and has lots of struggles in school. 4For this everyday witch student look I decided to think about what Akko might look like if she were attending witch school here. I used the Nivalis Dress/Tunic from Sofilantjes for the main part of the outfit. I made the basic dress version and the hood option.5I love this pattern and have made it a couple of times for my daughter and a few times as gifts. I usually make it from Cotton Lycra. This time I used a medium weight drapey rayon lycra and couldn’t be happier with the results. I did not make any modifications to the pattern. I kept it mostly all black except I did add some contrast cover-stitching in pink to the hem and sleeves.10 I used the free witch hat tutorial from Living with Punks to make the hat. The only modification I made was to add a 1.5 inch strip of red sweatshirt fleece around. I cut the strip first and placed it around the hat to measure. I sewed the strip where I needed to make it fit. I left the band loose in case she wants to re-purpose the hat for any future costumes. 8This spell apparently requires dance to execute 😛6I used the Abbys Trailblazing Socks pattern from The Wolf and the Tree for her knee highs. These are made in black cotton lycra. These were such a satisfying sew. 10 minutes to adorable socks. I will be making more for sure. There are soooo many options, they even include Leg Warmers! 2 I figured a modern witch at a witch school here would have an updated broom too. No old straw brooms for this girl. 1Sadly, just like Akko she struggles to get lift off.
