Princess Peach & Yoshi Inspired by Girl Like the Sea
Hello CraftingCon readers, nerds, geeks, and fantasy addicts etc etc. I’m Tara! I blog at girl like the sea (far too infrequently, but what can I say…..Instagram is a black hole of content for me). I’ve concocted a couple of Mario looks for the competition this month – Princess Peach and Yoshi inspired – for my daughter and son.
Let’s start with my little Peach!
Despite the facial expression (after several minutes of fussing with taking photos) she actually loves her Peach outfit. She’s worn it for three days in a row now, and I think it’s time to sneak it into the wash.
She’s a quirky peach who doesn’t need any rescuing from some silly plumbers. She’s got her own gold coin and…..
A gold star! She walks through fields of marching mushrooms like they’re nothing.
For Clover’s look, I made her a tee with a textured yellow hood that’s meant to look like Princess Peach hair. On the front, I pieced together tiny strips of different fabrics to make a pixelated gold coin applique. Not the easiest task with three kids who like to mess with my stuff. Haha. Overall I think it came out looking like a nod to Mario without being a costume. Perfect!
Pattern: modified Bimaa
Her skirt is made with some metallic gold dot Cotton and Steel. Perfect for a Princess Peach! I love this skirt pattern from Oliver and S. It’s got a great shape to it and twirls and drapes nicely. I like that it’s lined and has a drawstring too.
Pattern: Swingset skirt
Only one thing can throw this Princess for a loop…..the arrival of a very cute and tiny Yoshi.
Baby Yoshi speeds around our mini Mario world, knocking down colorful buildings and charming all the inhabitants.
He helps Princess peach build worlds and destroy them.
Details on the Yoshi shirt:
I made one of the many possible combinations for the Rowan Tee pattern by Craftstorming. Hooded, short cuffed sleeves. Plus I cut little interfaced red spikes for the hood, and belly, eye, and back patches all appliqued on. He loves his shirt and runs around saying “Oshi!”. Seriously. So cute.
