Twilight Sparkle and Spike Inspired by Little Miss Pinny
Hi! I’m Melissa from Little Miss Pinny and I’m excited to share my creations with you on Crafting Con today! I was so enormously excited when Crafting Con finally decided to do a My Little Pony month because I am a huge fan. I loved My Little Pony when I was younger (I watched and loved the very, very original series- the one from the 80s with the purple Smooze, the Rainbow of Light, the human girl named Megan, etc.). As the years went by, and as My Little Pony evolved to “fit in” with modern culture, I eventually stopped watching (I mean, really, just watch five seconds of this and you’ll understand). Other versions came out later too, and they just weren’t the same. Then came Friendship is Magic. At first, I wasn’t quite sure what to think. The ponies seemed to have changed so much, as well as the basic universe. Then one fateful day, I decided to sit down and actually give it a chance…and I am so glad I did!
This show is amazing, and it’s even more amazing how people of so many ages love it too! My little girl adores the show as well, so it’s fun for the two of us to have something we like together. 🙂
All right, enough talk! On to the “mane” event, shall we?
I have two kids- one girl and one boy, and I really wanted to include both of them into this. My little girl’s favorite pony is Twilight Sparkle, so what better way to involve the little guy than to make him her right hand dragon?
Check out the Twilight Sparkle Skirt and Spike Hoodie!
Unfortunately, my kids were having a rough day when I had a moment for my friend to take pictures of them (seriously, I thought an outing just for them before having to do one of mommy’s boring things would get them to do what I needed, but I guess not). So, if our pictures don’t capture the real fun feeling of these outfits, or even the spirit of My Little Pony, please forgive us for our lack of cooperation and just know that when I first tried these on them, my kids were ecstatic! 😉
Seriously, look at that face! “What do you mean The Life and Times of Starswirl the Bearded is out of print?!”
Let’s start with Twilight Sparkle! I thought about going for a look similar to the Equestria Girls version of Twilight, but I wanted to keep it feeling like the pony version of Twilight too. ^_^
This is a circle skirt design that I made with a little help from this tutorial. The waistband is white elastic and I finished the edge with a dark purple bias tape. Super cute way to finish a raw edge on a skirt, and to give it a little contrast.
The cutie mark was the part that took the most time, but it wasn’t too bad either! I used the Silhouette Cameo software to make the design and then the machine to cut it out on heat transfer vinyl. Then, using a home iron, I applied it to the skirt and voila! Cutie mark complete!
My outfit isn’t part of the competition, of course, but I actually did make a Rarity skirt for myself a few months before I made these outfits for the kids, so I thought it would be fun for all of us to match. ^_^
Let’s move on to Spike, everyone’s favorite dragon! For this outfit, I used a hoodie pattern from Brindle and Twig on Etsy.
The pattern was a basic baby/child hoodie, so I added the spikes up the back and on the hood. I also added the pocket in front to make it more fun (my little guy loves pockets!) and to look more like Spike’s tummy. 🙂
(He would NOT let go of that sippy cup, haha!)
A kiss from Rarity to the cutest dragon in Ponyville!
And there you have it! Twilight Sparkle and Spike, Ponyville’s very best friends!
